Fountain Statue Projection Mapping for CMoA

For the 10-year anniversary of the Walter Wing at the Columbus Museum of Art, Pacemour created a site-specific projection mapping installation on Aristide Maillol’s The Mountain in the museum courtyard. The project transformed the sculpture into a luminous focal point for the celebration while honoring its enduring presence within the architectural space. To achieve a precise and seamless result, we began by scanning the sculpture in high detail and building an accurate 3D digital model, allowing us to work directly with its true form rather than adapting flat visuals to a complex surface.

Using this 3D model as the foundation, all animations were designed to respond to the sculpture’s contours, mass, and sculptural rhythm. Light and motion followed the geometry of the figure, wrapping naturally around curves and revealing subtle details through movement and depth. The finished projection felt integrated with the physical sculpture and created a moment that connected classical art, contemporary technology, and the museum’s decade-long milestone.
